Estancia La Paz is located in Colonia La Paz, province of Paysandú, which is where the Portela Brothers were born and raised. Their relationship with the local farmers and landowners gives them a great advantage in securing the most productive shooting fields, and most exclusive lodges. Now home to dove, perdiz and pigeon hunters of Wide Open Outfitters, this estancia is one of the finest remote and peaceful bed and breakfast Estancias in western Uruguay. Secured long before wing-shooting in Uruguay became famous.

La Paz is the Portela Brothers’ first and longest lasting partnership, and continues to offer wonderful accommodations and service for guest of Wide Open Outfitters.

SHOOTING
From May-July: Walk-up perdiz in the morning followed by dove and decoyed pigeon in the afternoon.

From September to April: Dove, and pigeon. Group’s sizes are not an issue. One or Two hunters are welcome and non minimum days are required.

Most of the perdiz shooting is done in the property, walking distance and dove fields are not longer than 30 minutes as well as pigeons and ducks.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodations at Estancia La Paz are offered in the best atmosphere you can imagine. Full Spa service and gourmet food are the perfect combination of this lodge. Offering 12 bedrooms and 12 baths this location is ideal for parties of up to 12 shooters (based on double occupancy). Parties of 12 or more secure the estancia exclusively.

ACTIVITIES
This fine estancia is the perfect place to learn the traditional Argentine/Uruguayan game of polo, as tuition and matches can be arranged. There are two polo fields, which have a magnificent history of excellent polo players 80 kilometers from the lodge. Other activities include horseback riding, golf and boating on the lake. You may also take guided walks around the estancia, bird watching and farming outside the park’s boundaries. Estancia La Paz is located in the in the northwest region of Uruguay in the state of Rio Negro near the river town of Paysandú. The lodge is approximately 208 miles from Montevideo, the capital of this small country.

Most commonly, shooters traveling on international flights to Uruguay and Montevideo International Airport will be met by a La Paz Lodge representative who will assist with gun clearance, if necessary, and who will transport the group to La Paz Lodge. The drive is approximately 3 hours through scenic rural Uruguay via paved highway.

This is not pass shooting, but rather no limit, non-stop, decoying action. The incredible populations of wild Spot-winged and Picazuro pigeon provide one of the most spectacular wing-shooting opportunities in South America.

The pigeon flights being just as the sun rises, and only increase in volume as the day progresses. Every day we will serve lunch BBQ asados at the field and back for dinner at the hotel.

It is not uncommon for one confident shooter to take well over a hundred pigeons. Average of shooting consists in 15 boxes per day approximately.

Less than two hours by van from the Texas border, but a world away. This convenient, comfortable getaway is perfectly situated near the largest white-winged dove nesting area in the world and in the middle of thousands of acres of sorghum, corn and sunflower fields. Known as the breadbasket of Mexico, this area in the state of Tamaulipas, is ideal habitat for white-winged and mourning dove, and for huge coveys of wild bobwhite quail — minutes from the lodge.

A few miles away, along the Mexican gulf coast, waterfowling is spectacular! The large North American flyways converge here in this coastal region which contains large freshwater “pans” as well as shallow saltwater bays. The variety of waterfowl is phenomenal.
